I'd say she's Werth it

Ellen von Unwerth, the former model and Photographer who’s provocative and erotic style in Fashion Photography is often compared to photographers like Juergen Teller and Terry Richardson. I don’t’ like to refer her to Terry Richardson, the man is extremely talented but after hearing about his consistent sexual abuse allegations with models, I would like to avoid the comparison. You have probably heard of Juergen Teller, he is the iconic German photographer who's images are plastered across the Marc Jacobs campaigns. Last Summer I sat in a Marc Jacobs boutique one year waiting for my friend to choose a bag while being enveloped in the publication which showcased all his work between1998-2009. Quirky and very distinctive style, you can’t get it out of your head even if you tried.

Getting back to the point, I'm falling deeper under the spell of Ellen von Unwerth’s style.. I would describe it as raunchy sexy glamour with a hint of death. I have always had a profound respect for photographers who take a provocative and riskay angle on things, perhaps because I don’t dare to walk the edge as they do. I love the dark and eerie yet playful and alluring themes of celebration in her photography. Makes you feel like you’re in the same room as these fictional characters. The "in the same room as" characteristic in her style reminds me of Diane Arbus; except Unwerth's subjects are much more dressed up, and instead of awkward personalities she picked up off the street, they're super model babes. Might be a strong statement to make, but she may be one of my favourite female photographers.
