I realized I was wrong, I really stand behind the statement that cupcakes are the new black..
With cake boss, and fabulous cakes and tons and tons of shows about baking wars and cake competitions popping up on every network, it has truly become a new fad.
A couple of weeks later, a friend invited me to her summer barbecue. I couldn't help but use this as an excuse to whip up some vanilla icing and bake a couple of these lovely little cupcakes. Decorating them became an addiction. We spent hours at the table just swirling over them with fanciful designs.
To my delight, the day after, everyone who attended and had a bite of my cupcakes raved about how delicious they were. (not to toot my own horn) and to my surprise, it wasn't a cavity causer or over the top on the sweetness scale. (I realize that the icing looks like Crest toothpaste in the process) but I can assure you they were delicious. I took my little cupcakes out for a shoot before getting completely demolished. This was just the beginning of my cupcake addiction...
